With the Malaysian International Furniture Fair (MIFF) 2023 just over three months away, it’s time to get the hype machine oiled and running! Here's a gentle reminder of why the global buyers think of the world of MIFF and what inspires them to return each year as excited as ever.

The 4-day event will be held from 1-4 March 2023 across two venues at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) and World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur (WTCKL), and will feature over 500 furniture manufacturers and importers over 80,000 square metres of exhibiting space. That’s over 20 football fields filled with the latest innovations in all types of furniture, furniture accessories, fitting and hardware, timber and other crafting materials awaiting for you to explore.

Excited yet? Here’s why you should be!

The Widest Collection Under One Roof

As they say, variety is the spice of life – and you won’t find greater variety anywhere else but at MIFF 2023. From home and office furniture to sofas, fittings and hardware to raw materials for construction, everything furniture related has been brought together in one exhibition for your convenience.

As American buyer Daniel Rafaeli from Ottomanson remarked upon his first time visiting, “I’m very impressed by the amount of companies and merchandise and designs and quality, it’s very exciting!”

Australian Nick Ellis, who represents Direct Products, echoes that sentiment, saying “MIFF generally has a very good range of commercial sofas and bedding, which is our market, so we’re delighted to always come back.”

Fresh Designs and Innovations

If shiny new things are what you’re after, then MIFF is a must-visit event on your calendar. It is proud to annually showcase all of the latest trends and inventions in the furniture industry, especially when it comes to Malaysian wood furnishings, where you often can’t find many products showcased at other trade shows. If its fresh and new and furniture-related, you’ll find it on the show floor!

Japanese buyer Hamada Takenori from Koyo Corporation was impressed in the last exhibition with the new technology incorporated into exhibitors’ furniture designs, saying, “I found many motorised features developed into new products and designs, so it was excellent.”

The Right Prices = Big Business

Another great aspect of MIFF that continues to gain global praise is that it is a business-oriented trade show where deals are made on-site and where orders and prices are flexible and negotiable. Unlike many exhibitions where attendees come to browse and make decisions later, MIFF attracts serious exhibitors, buyers and visitors that are ready to make deals during the event!

Enrico Cleva of EC & Co. certainly recognises this, saying, “I have been visiting MIFF every year since 2014. Despite so many changes in the furniture exhibitions industry, with new fairs created and established events canceled, and surely the challenges the world has been through in this recent years, MIFF is always where the global furniture community meets in Southeast Asia. MIFF is not only where you see Malaysian and Southeast Asia furniture production, due to the vision of the leadership team, it is now where you see the most advanced and cutting edge Asian design. For an open window on that part of the world MIFF is surely a place to be.”

It's no wonder that the show constantly generates export sales of over US$ 1Billion! In fact, the business generated during MIFF represents 30% of Malaysia’s furniture exports, which makes the show a vital exhibition for the ASEAN furniture ecosystem and amongst the top 10 global B2B furniture trade fairs.

A Global Marketplace (and Meeting Place!)

When you step into MIFF, it’s easy to forget that you’re in Malaysia. As the biggest furniture exhibition in Southeast Asia, MIFF attracts exhibitors from more than 14 countries around the world and over 20,000 buyers and visitors from 130 countries and regions!

This is why MIFF is recognised as a truly global marketplace and a key destination for industry leaders from around the world to congregate, build their networks and exchange ideas. Ryan van Rooyen from SMD Technologies of South Africa sums it up best when he says, “For me it’s the biggest show in Malaysia so it’s the only real option. That’s what brings everyone together!”

Legendary Malaysian Hospitality

When it comes to creating a warm and welcoming environment, Malaysia ranks amongst the best in the world! Kuala Lumpur is a city that offers all the conveniences of modern cities while still exuding old world charm and a plethora of dining and leisure options.

We don’t want to toot our own horn, but the team is constantly humbled by the gratitude many exhibitors and visitors have shown toward the show. As Ikuzo Abeno of Toyo Furniture Research summarises, “First of all, there are always highly-qualified exhibitors and secondly, every service during the show exudes hospitality. Finally, we can’t forget the kind and friendly support shown by the MIFF team.”

Aww, such kind words are what makes it all worthwhile. It is indeed a great pleasure having such wonderful exhibitors, visitors and buyers joining each and every year for such a fruitful and fulfilling event.

Now that the worst of the COVID-19 pandemic is in the rear-view mirror, the team can’t wait to put on the first full-scale exhibition in three years next March. It’s going to be bigger and better than ever before, so make sure you don’t miss out. See you there!
